Freumh is Fàs means ‘root and grow.’ We will root down in community, root down into Gàidhlig language and ways, and root down into the land. This land-based community building which centres Gàidhlig will ripple out into the broader community and to Gaeldom - growing food, growing connections, and growing Gaels.

The dandelion is known in Gaelic as beàrnan Brìghde | little notched one of Brigid. We adopted it as the image for our community in part for its association with Brigid and her regenerative powers and also because we see parallels between the dandelion and the Gaelic language and culture. Often persecuted as an unwelcome weed, the dandelion not only persists with remarkable resilience but continues to offer up healing gifts in abundance. It is one of the first plants to grow after winter and both its leaves and roots are highly nutritious - full of vitamins, antioxidants and other health-giving compounds. It offers essential food for bees in the early spring and its white sap mirrors a' chiad bhainne | the first milk brought forth by the birth of the first lambs.

We recognize that to live on unceded Mi’kmaw territory is a privilege. We acknowledge that we are able to live on this land today thanks to the Mi’kmaw People’s dedication and service to Mother Earth for thousands of years through ceremony, cultural practices, and ways of life. We appreciate the generosity and friendship extended by the Mi'kmaw People to the first Gàidhlig settlers which undoubtedly contributed to their survival and our existence today. We acknowledge that we are all Treaty People and we are committed to Peace and Friendship with the Mi’kmaq and all other cultural groups.
